Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 29, 2026
Slaw & Order is an app that answers one question: is the coleslaw here worth ordering? It’s made by Supper Club Software LLC (“we”, “us”), a Wisconsin company. This policy explains what information the app and our servers collect, why, who else handles it, and how long we keep it.
If you have a question, email support@supperclubsoftware.com.
The short version
- To show you nearby restaurants, the app sends your device’s location to our servers.
- When you vote, we remember where you voted: how far you were from the restaurant, and whether you were nearby. A vote is a record that you were at (or thought about) that restaurant.
- Vote totals are public. Your name and email are not shown next to your vote. But when only a few people have voted on a place, someone who knows you may be able to guess how you voted.
- We don’t show ads, we don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use third-party analytics or tracking.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time. That deletes your votes too.
What we collect
Your account
When you sign up we collect:
- Your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose “Hide My Email”, this is the private relay address Apple gives us.
- Your password, if you create one. We store it only in hashed form.
- Your Sign in with Apple identifier, if you sign in with Apple, so we can recognize you next time.
- When your account was created and whether your email address is verified.
Your votes and reports
When you vote, we store:
- The restaurant, your answer (order it / skip it / no coleslaw here), and the slaw style if you picked one (creamy or vinegar).
- When you cast the vote and when you last changed it.
- A history of changes to your votes, so we can spot unusual activity (for example, an account flipping dozens of votes in a day).
- “I saw slaw” reports you make about a restaurant marked as having no coleslaw.
Votes you cast while signed out wait on your phone and are sent to us when you sign in. If you don’t sign in within 24 hours, the app drops them.
Your location
The app asks for permission to use your location while you’re using it. You can say no and still search for restaurants by name.
- Finding restaurants nearby. The app sends your device’s coordinates to our servers to look up restaurants around you.
- When you vote. The app sends your coordinates with the vote. Our server works out the straight-line distance between you and the restaurant, and saves that distance and a yes/no “voted nearby” flag with your vote, instead of your coordinates. We keep the distance for 90 days and the “voted nearby” flag for as long as the vote exists. We use these to spot fake or automated voting.
- When you add a restaurant. The restaurant is pinned at your phone’s location when you add it. That location becomes the restaurant’s public location in the app, and we record that your account added it.
Coordinates sent to our servers can also appear in technical logs and error reports (see “Technical information” below).
Restaurants you add
If you add a restaurant, we store the name and any address details you enter, its location (see above), and that your account added it. Restaurants you add are visible to everyone in the app. Your name and email are not shown with them.
Technical information
- IP address. Our servers see your IP address with every request. We use it to limit how fast any one device can make requests, which protects the service from abuse.
- Device time zone. The app sends your time zone so your daily vote limit resets at your local midnight.
- Logs and error reports. When something goes wrong on our servers, we record details about the failed request so we can fix it. This can include the request’s address and the data sent with it, which may include your coordinates.
The app itself does not include analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs.
Stored on your phone
The app keeps some information on your device: votes waiting to be sent, recently viewed restaurants, your settings (such as distance units), and your sign-in token (in the device’s secure storage). Deleting the app removes it.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- run the app: find restaurants, record votes, and show tallies;
- enforce daily vote limits and prevent fake, duplicate, or automated votes;
- send account emails: verification codes, password reset codes, and security notices such as “your password was changed”;
- fix bugs and keep the service secure;
- comply with the law.
We don’t use your information for advertising, and we don’t build profiles of you for anyone else.
What other people can see
- Vote tallies for each restaurant: how many people said to order or skip the slaw, and the style breakdown.
- Restaurants users have added, including their location.
Other users can’t see your email or a list of your votes. Your Slaw Passport (your vote history) is visible only to you. Remember that a vote says you’ve been to a restaurant. Where a restaurant has very few votes, people who know you may be able to work out that one of them is yours.
Who else handles your information
We use service providers to run Slaw & Order: cloud hosting and database storage, email delivery, server error reporting and log storage, and website hosting. They handle information only on our behalf, only to provide their service to us, and they’re required to protect it at least as well as we do.
If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple handles your sign-in. We revoke the app’s access to your Apple ID when you delete your account.
The restaurant listings come from the Foursquare OS Places open dataset, which we download to our own database. The app does not connect to Foursquare when you use it.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety or our rights, or as part of a sale or merger of our business (in which case this policy continues to apply to your information).
Who at Supper Club Software can see it
Access to account and vote data is limited to the people who administer the service, and is used only for running the app, moderation, and support.
How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Account details | Until you delete your account |
| Votes, vote history, “I saw slaw” reports | Until you delete your account (or we remove them for abuse) |
| Distance from the restaurant, on each vote | 90 days from when you last cast or changed the vote |
| “Voted nearby” flag | As long as the vote exists |
| Restaurants you add | Indefinitely; the link to your account is removed when you delete your account |
| Signed-out votes on your phone | Up to 24 hours |
| Server logs and error reports | Up to 90 days |
| Database backups | Up to 7 days after deletion |
Deleting your account
In the app, go to Me → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, your votes, your vote history, and your “I saw slaw” reports, and the public tallies update. Restaurants you added stay in the app, but no longer show that you added them. If you used Sign in with Apple, we also revoke the app’s access to your Apple ID.
You can also email support@supperclubsoftware.com to ask us to delete your account.
Your choices and rights
- Location: turn it off any time in your phone’s settings. You can still search by name; you can’t add restaurants without it.
- Votes: change any vote at any time.
- Access and correction: email us for a copy of the information tied to your account, or to correct it.
- Depending on where you live, you may have other privacy rights. Email us and we’ll respond within the time the law requires.
Security
The app talks to our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored hashed, and your sign-in token is kept in your phone’s secure storage. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Slaw & Order is not meant for anyone under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe someone under 16 has an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
Where information is processed
Our servers and service providers are in the United States. If you use the app from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version at slawandorder.app/privacy and update the effective date. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
